different-ways-to-wear-purple
Call it amethyst, plum or violet. Purple by any other name will be just as hot. Rich jewel hues are the rage for Fall/Winter 2012, with the biggest international brands exploiting the shade, signalling a comeback of ’80s fashion. “From the satiny rich silhouette of Armani Prive to power-hungry retro prints of Prada, purple has suddenly gone from being one of many elegant cocktail colours to the colour of collections,” says Latha Sunadh, stylist and editor of a fashion portal.
It’s hard to miss, really. Prada’s Fall 2012 campaign features models carrying purple bags, lounging in a plush violet upholstered room. British designing star Christopher Kane professed his love for purple with a dazzling leather-trimmed flocked tulle dress, and a pencil skirt to match. House of Holland even propelled the shade into the next season with its Resortwear 2013 collection, featuring a spunky purple and white pinstripe jumpsuit.
Back home, the just-concluded Fashion Week saw Shradha Murarka of Vizyon team a purple panel cutout bodice with a laser-cut rexine black tulip skirt.
In your wardrobe
Stylist and fashion blogger Sonu Bohra gives the shade full marks for versatility. “It looks good in small and large doses.” Whether you wear a deep purple trench or a pastel blouse with purple denims, it looks luxurious without stinking of opulence. Follow these tips: » Combine an all-purple outfit with tangerine accessories. » Want to turn heads? Slip on purple suede heels or boots with jeans and a tee. » Team a simple dress with a semi-precious neckpiece in mauve. There’s nothing hotter than a girl wearing a statement necklace. » It could make you look plumper than you are, so be prudent. Tall women can wear purple denims, but heavier girls should opt for purple printed satin dresses; they are the perfect look-slimmer trick.
